Algeria attack worries Siasia
National Under-23 team coach, Samson Siasia, fears his team could struggle against Algeria attackers
in their CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations last group match in Senegal on Saturday.
Both teams are tied on four points with the Algerians leading Group B with a superior goal
difference. They have both won and drawn a match each.
Nigeria conceded two goals in each match to relinquish the comfortable leads they had in the first
half of both matches.
With the Algerian team scoring three goals and conceding just one in their first two games coming
against Nigeria’s team, which have scored five and conceded four, Siasia said his defenders must be
careful to avoid defeat and miss out on a place in the semifinals.
“We did not play in the second half and we cannot continue like that, if we want to go to the
Olympics. We have to be careful,” Siasia told Cafonline.com on Wednesday.
“We tend to lose concentration in the second half and have to fix it. It was the case in the first game
against Mali and the same thing happened against Egypt. It is no longer funny.
“It will be a tough battle against Algeria, and we have to be careful about the North African sides,
they attack left and right.”
Algeria coach, Pierre André Schurman, said his team had begun preparations for the game.
He said, “We take each match one after the other, and we will not start talking about the semi-finals
now because we are not there. We will prepare for our next match against Nigeria.”
