By: EDOKPOLOR OSAYANDE The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sherrif has been described as a dogged politician who has always defeated any opposition on his path, going by his track records.
This was the view of former Deputy Leader of Igbo Eze North Legislative Council, Mr. Tochi Jerome Mama in an interview with Daily Times in Lagos.
According to him, members should believe in Sheriff as he is the key to reviving the party with his good intentions pointing out that with PDP as the strongest opposition party in Nigeria now, Sheriff is competent, to lead it as he has won election as Senator and Governor from an opposition party.
He described the PDP chieftain as a leader who has given his word not to exceed one day from the three months the party organs gave to him conduct elections and congresses from the ward to local, state and National convention.
He noted that the problem of PDP has been leadership imposition and with the selection of a credible candidate like Sheriff, the forthcoming convention will address this issue for the party to move forward.
He urged that the convention should be an open, free and fair election where candidates will not be imposed on the people but a credible and acceptable candidate will emerge to lead the party to victory in the next election and wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He called on members intending to perish the thought saying for democracy to survive in any democratic system, there must be strong opposition, adding that if APC won as opposition party, then the decamping members are trying so say there should be no opposition, pointing out that if they keep decamping, the party may not survive. He encouraged them to remain in PDP as the party has all it takes to wrest power from APC.
He advised that Reps, Senators, and Governors currently flying the party’s flag to remain steadfast and committed as the PDP is rising again adding that the party members should have faith in the new PDP leadership. The new PDP, he pointed out needs team work and hardwork to succeed, as each member must contribute its own quota toward the success of the party in order to regain power.
