Hundreds of youths in Oteku clan in including community leaders and market women in Etsako East local government area of Edo state yesterday staged a protest against what they described as the fraudulent and illegal acquisition of Obu limestone deposit by Dangote Industries Limited.
The angry protesters also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently set up a commission of inquiry into the matter to avoid any unforeseen circumstance that may jeopardize peace and security in community.
President, Ukhomunoyio Youth Association, Mr Uduafemeh Otaru Gospel, in a statement added that Obu limestone deposit is located in Oteku Okpella, and alleged that the fraudulent deal was facilitated by Ado Ibrahim who altered the inter state boundary to place Obu (remained OBU to UBO) under Okene in Kogi State.
On his part, the chairman, Etsako East LGC, Hon. Abdulmalik Afegbua who addressed the mammoth crowd, said that he was informed of the protest on his way to office and had to turn back.
While commending the Youths for the peaceful nature of the protest, he said that the issue has been a lingering one.
He added that the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is already handling the matter.
He however promised to contact the governor and relevant agencies again on the issue promising that an inch of Okpella land will not be ceded to Kogi State.
He maintained that Dangote and other investors are welcome to other minerals deposits which abound in Okpella.
