INFERNO: PDP National Chairman Aborts Visit To Ondo Govt Office Over Fire

Tope Fayehun
Fire nearly aborted the official visit of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, when part of the executives chamber of  the  Governor’s office was yesterday gutted by fire .

The chamber where the governor was expected to receive Sheriff was  gutted by fire few minutes after the PDP boss arrived the governor’s office.

The fire outbreak which was discovered by journalists and some PDP chieftains who were waiting for the PDP chairman and Mimiko for briefing was said to have been caused by power surge.

It was learnt that the fire destroyed some government property which made the Governor and the visitor to reschedule the meeting to the Presidential Lodge.

Speaking with journalists after a closed door meeting, however, the PDP chairman said his presence in Ondo State became imperative, after his previous visit to Rivers State on Tuesday for campaign rally.

He said he came  to see Governor Mimiko, the chairman of PDP Governors Forum, whom he described as the “Governor-General.”

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff noted that  members of the party have buried the hatchet for the progress of the opposition party in country.

Accordingly to him, this will translate to the victory of the PDP candidates in the two senatorial and 21 state assembly by-elections in Rivers State, premising his hope on the recent re-run elections in the nation.

“It very clear today, from all the by-elections that we have conducted recently that the party has already come together.

“All the bye-elections from Benue, Kogi, Taraba, Abia, Akwa-Ibom and Ebonyi; it is very clear that whatever differences the people were having within the party before that made us to lose election, people have come together to bury those differences so that we can concentrate and reposition our party back to where it belongs.”
