FG Applauds Kebbi Govt Over Boost In Rice, Wheat Production

The federal government has applauded the Kebbi State government over its efforts to boost rice and wheat production and described Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu as a shinning example in the north, Nigeria and Africa at large on how to encourage agricultural production.

This is contained in a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari and made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja, yesterday.

The minister of Agriculture, Mr Audu Ogbe made the commendation in an address he delivered on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari at Alkamawa town, near Wudil, Kano State  at the 2016 National Wheat Farmers Field Day organised by the Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Area (ICARDA). The minister expressed happiness about what he saw in Kano and Kebbi states. He pledged to support the research institute in promoting research on improved seeds and mechanical farming to enhance farmers’ yield per hectare so as to make the nation sufficient in cash crop production.

Chief Audu Ogbe assured farmers of federal government’s commitment to attain food security and save enormous resources expended on food importation.

The agriculture minister also commended millers across the country through their chairman, Mr John G. Countaros who also promised farmers that the millers would purchase all wheat produced in the country, considering its importance.

Furthermore, he pledged to provide Fulani herdsmen with grass to feed their animals to enable them produce maximum milk and meat as well as minimize encroachment into farmlands.
