The SSA to the President said this in Uyo on Monday while fielding questions from journalists.

He said, “Do not blame the Federal Government for the economic woes of the country. The FG should not be blamed; this is caused by the falling crude prices in the international market.”

Enang said crude oil prices in the international market will continue to fall as demand for oil is decreasing.

He stated that the trend was not peculiar only to Nigeria but across the globe, especially, as vehicles were being made to run on batteries instead of fuel.

Enang added that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government was conscious of this fact and that that was why the administration planned the economy based on non-oil exports.

Enang described as untrue the insinuation that the APC-led FG did not have an economic policy, noting that the party’s policies were contained in the party’s manifesto, the published economic agenda of the party and the 2016 budget as passed by the National Assembly.

He stated that the FG was pursuing the policy of economic diversification with vigour, stressing that doing so was the only way to get the nation away from oil dependence.

Enang stated that agriculture was Nigeria’s highest employer of labour even as he maintained that the Muhammadu Buhari administration would give attention to the sector.

“Much of what Nigerians have been surviving on is what you get from under the ground and not from the surface of the ground. We are not taking advantage of the agricultural potential that we have,” he said.

According to Enang, the era of seeing agriculture as a vocation for the poor was over, calling on Nigerians to participate in subsistent farming.
