Governor approves N236 m as car loans for workers
THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose’s opposition to the Single Treasury Account (TSA) policy of the Federal Government.
It said his stance smacks of deliberate ploy to conceal fraud, saying it was disheartening that Fayose is the only governor opposed to the transparency policy of the Federal Government that all other governors had queued into to save their states from fraudulent practices.
Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement, described Fayose’s r attitude portraying Ekiti State as an island as a dangerous saying the governor’s aversion for accountability in financial matters had ulterior motive.
“TSA is aimed at ensuring that all government earnings are paid into a single account to ensure accountability and check fraud unlike in the past where several government’s accounts were scattered in many banks to perpetrate frauds.
“For a governor who describes himself as a friend of the poor to oppose a policy that will make the same poor people enjoy the benefits of transparent governance is the height of irresponsibility.
“We can now see the reason why the governor has opened several channels of revenue collections to be paid into several accounts that revenue collection officers are describing as opaque,” Olatunbosun explained.
Meanwhile, the governor Fayose has approved the immediate disbursement of N236, 860,000 as vehicle loan to 773 workers in the state public service.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo who made this known in Ado-Ekiti, said the loan, which ranges from N80,000 to N1.5 million will be paid in full to the beneficiaries.
He said grade level of the 773 beneficiaries was taken into consideration in approving the loan for them.
