PDP caused Nigeria’s present crisis –Adebayo

FORMER Ekiti State governor, Niyi Adebayo, has described the current economic crisis in the country as the outcome of long years of bad leadership and mismanagement of the nation’s resources by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government.
Adebayo told Daily Sun yesterday in his Lagos law chamber that by now, former president Goodluck Jonathan would have been stoned if he had been re-elected last year.
He said revelations coming out of the probe of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, showed that the PDP government sucked the nation dry, especially in the last six years.
“The former administration looted the nation’s treasury and failed to repair the oil refineries, failed to plan well and manage the resources properly.
“ The way they encouraged looting and failed to fight corruption led the nation to this current situation the APC government is battling with. In December 2014, they said there would be austerity measures in 2015 and they handed over a looted treasury to the APC, which showed they don’t love the country, “ he added.
The APC chieftain noted that if Jonathan had won the election by whatever means, people would have started stoning him by now because those who contributed to his election victory would have embarked on more looting and he would not have been able to stop them.
The outcome, according to Adebayo, would have been total collapse of the economy.
He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he was already making efforts to recover looted funds and revive the economy.
On the reasons for Buhari’s failure to appoint him as a minister, Adebayo said appointment of ministers was at the discretion of the president.
He said since Dr. Kayode Fayemi had been appointed as a minister and he (Fayemi) is his brother, he is fully in support of the president’s choice.
