The Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) is to establish technology villages in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The association also looks forward to creating over two million job opportunities within two years with support from relevant government agencies and financial institutions.
NASSI President, Mr. Ezekiel Essien unveiled the association’s 2016 Strategic Development Plan for rapid industrial/entrepreneurship development to the Science and Technology Minister, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in Abuja yesterday, where he disclosed that they had worked out modalities with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to put to use the 300 industrial development centres across the country.
Essien named development of industrial clusters for artisanship technological advancement; small industries technology transfer/exchange programme with foreign collaborators as well as technology exhibition/exchange programme as part of the highlights of their strategic plan.
On the proposed NASSI agro-cluster production/value addition processing and packaging project, he explained that the association would approach state governments to provide them with land; adding that they would begin with cassava cultivation.
The NASSI president further hinted that the association would form cooperatives especially for the cassava project, saying with organic fertilizers their produce would be of international standard.
In his response, the minister assured NASSI of the commitment of the present administration to collaborate with anybody or groups that would assist the government in creating jobs and wealth.
Onu said the economic diversification process of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration cannot work without small-scale industrialists, and stressed that most big companies and corporations all over the world, started as small businesses.
