How NFF official was shot dead

IT was a day of mourning at the Glass House of the nation’s soccer governing body yes­terday as facts emerged on how its head of protocol, 43-year old Ibrahim Abubakar was shot dead.

Daily Sunsports gathered that gunmen stormed his house on Oluwunmi Crescent, Kado Estate, Abuja in the early hours of yes­terday and shot him dead.

The police which have since visited the scene and began investigation have vowed to nab the killers of the soccer buff.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Wilson Inalegwu had af­ter inspecting the scene of the incident and the environment yesterday, said the Police would do everything to nab those who took Abubakar’s life. He was however silent on whether it was a case of robbery or assassi­nation.

NFF officials led by the General Secre­tary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, accompanied the corpse from the National Hospital, Abuja to the late Abubakar’s hometown, Kaduna, where the remains were interred at some minutes after noon.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick was devas­tated as he got the news on phone, and it took him several minutes to recover his voice. He condoled the Management and Staff on be­half of the NFF Executive Committee.

Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Da­lung became the first Minister of Sports to pay a condolence visit to the NFF, as he ar­rived the Glass House in company with the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Christian Ohaa. Both men signed the condolence register. The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut also sent a condolence message.

At the burial in Kaduna, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Sanusi in company with a del­egation that included Ademola Olajire (AD, Communications), Tunde Aderibigbe (SA to President), Dr. Christian Emeruwa (SA to GS), Okey Obi (Chief Legal Officer), Dr. Robinson Okosun, Nasiru Jibril (PA to Presi­dent), Enebi Achor, Emmanuel Ayanbunmi, Paul Okwudolor, Joshua Onoja, Aliyu Ibra­him and Magaji Abdullahi, met with the par­ents of the late Ibrahim and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.

There were also former NFF General Sec­retary, Barr. Musa Amadu, Kaduna State
