Civil Defence Corps seals Ogun fuel station for hoarding petrol
Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State, Command on Monday sealed up Ebenfem Petrol Station in Abeokuta for allegedly hoarding fuel and denying customers the right of purchase.
The owners of the petrol station located in Ita-Eko area of the town were found by the monitoring team of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence to be selling fuel at N130 per litres contrary to the official price of N87 per litre.
Following this discovery, the authority ordered the reversal of the price to its normal price of N87.
But surprisingly, after selling fuel at the approved price to about five customers, and knowing the security officials had left, the attendants stopped further sales, claiming there were no more products in the tank.
This development infuriated customers and the news filtered back to officials of Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps who raced to the station to discover all petrol attendants and their manager had abandoned their duty positions, leaving several customers stranded.
A check on the underground tank of the station by the security officials revealed that, there was enough fuel to be dispensed.
In view of this, the monitoring team of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence immediately ordered the closure of the station and assigned some of the operatives to keep vigil at the station pending the time all staff would return to the station.
Two customers, Saheed Opeoluwa and Rachael Esan, told journalists the management of the fuel station was not sincere and accused them of subjecting customers to torture for their selfish interests.
The customers praised the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps for taking up the challenge of monitoring the fuel situation in the state and also supported the disciplinary measure introduced by the authority against erring petrol stations.
Speaking to journalists, the Public Relations Officer of the State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kareem Olanrewaju, confirmed the development.
Mr. Olanrewaju said so far, a number of petrol stations had been complying with the price reversal directive, adding that any erring station will face the wrath of the law.
