Abuja-The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has said that the recent protests and road blocks on high ways by the pro-Biafran group in the South East is a criminal act and an infringement on the rights of other Nigerians.
This is as he said that the situation is being handled professionally by the Nigerian Police as 137 people are undergoing prosecution already.
Solomon Arase who disclosed these to news men in Abuja on Wednesday said that the locking down of high ways criminalizes what ever the group is fighting for, adding that every Nigerian has a right but where the right of one stops is where that of another begins.
He further assured that he will clamp down and prosecute any group that is out to disturb the peace of the country, adding that any body that crosses the line has left the civil realm to the criminal realm.
According to him; "Currently we have about 137 of them who are undergoing prosecution across the lengths and breadths of the South East. We will continue to clamp down on them but at the same time, we want to also have a healthy respect for the human rights of every Nigerian".
The IG further assured of peace in the forth coming Bayelsa election, saying that police men will be deployed for security to dominate, adding also that the rumours making round of the attack of former President, Goodluck Jonathan is untrue.
