APC leader dismisses Dickson’s ‘federal might’ allegation
A leader of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Mr. Bodi
Arerebo, has said the governorship candidate of the party, Chief Timipre
Sylva, does not need the support of the APC-led Federal Government to
defeat the incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson.
Arerebo, who was reacting to a statement credited to Dickson, challenged
the governor to tell the people what he had achieved in his four years as
a governor instead of alleging that Sylva was relying on federal might to
win the Saturday elections
The PDP leader, who spoke at a news conference in Yenagoa on Monday, said
Sylva would win the election “fair and square” considering the ex-
governor’s popularity and achievements while in office and his
overwhelming followership.
He said many Bayelsans, who still expressed displeasure at the way Sylva
was disallowed to contest in 2012, had united to return the former
governor for his second term.

He argued that Dickson’s fear about the use of federal might was fuelled
by the fact that he came to power through federal might.
Arerebo said, “I wish to advise Governor Seriake Dickson to stop whipping
up sentiment about the use of federal might by the APC candidate, Timipre
Sylva. Instead, he should concentrate on telling the people of Baylesa
what he did in his first tenure and how he has improved on lives.”
He also called on relevant authorities to probe the attacks on APC
members by suspected opposition party thugs. He alleged that some thugs
attacked party faithful at a campaign rally organised to receive 150
defectors from the PDP in Agorogbeni, Sagbama Local Government Area of
the state.
He said, “We had a rally in Agorogbeni, my community, in Sagbama Local
Government Area, opposite Okobiri, and thugs disrupted our rally. At that
rally, we had over 150 people from the PDP that crossed over to the APC.
We were having a peaceful rally until people came from nowhere with guns,
machetes and axes. As I speak, a lot of people were injured, and one is
hospitalised.
“We have it on good authority that the opposition sponsored the thugs
that attacked us. They said they were not happy that the people of the
community had decided to cast their votes for the APC.”
He advised Sylva to be wary of enemies around him, saying some of those
with him were among those that betrayed him during his trying times.
