Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday donated 107 patrol vehicles and 230 bullet-proof vests to security agencies in the state.
Presenting the vehicles to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, Mr. El-Rufai said his administration’s partnership with security agencies yielded positive result in the last six months.
He said the partnership led to success in fight against cattle rustlers.
Mr. El-Rufai however appealed to the police chief to increase the number of policemen in the state, saying the number was not enough for the state.
He requested that 7,000 policemen should be added to the existing 13,000 in the state, which he said represented only five percent of the nation’s police population.
“We need more policemen in Kaduna because we have 13,000 police in the state, which is about 5 percent of the country’s police population.
“So we need additional 7,000 policemen,” the governor said.
In his remark, Mr. Arase commended the state governor for donating the vehicles and the vests to the police and other security agencies.
The police boss said by procuring such items, the governor showed determination to stamp out crimes from the state.
He also said he was very happy with the governor’s effort in tackling insecurity in the state.
“The police will live up to expectation by doubling its efforts at stamping out crimes in the state,” he said.
