Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on the people of Kogi State to stay back to defend their votes in the Saturday governorship election in the state.
Osinbajo, who spoke in Lokoja on Wednesday at the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress campaign rally, said that the real winners of the poll would be those who stay back to see their vote counted, collated and announced .
The Vice President, who was in Lokoja to campaign for the APC candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, urged the people of Kogi State to “join the train of change as the captain of the present ship in the state is currently asleep”.
At the rally, Audu said the PDP government in the state had completely ruined the state as civil servants, local government workers as well as pensioners hardly get paid.
He promised to clear the backlog of salary arrears and effect promotion of workers if elected in the Saturday poll.
Also, the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, described the PDP as “poverty development party” and that free and fair election was strange to the PDP.
“They only understand the language of rigging and nothing else and that is why you must stand by your votes next Saturday to avoid rigging you out,” he told party supporters at the rally.
At the rally, 15 former local government chairmen defected from the PDP to the APC, also 18 ex-aides of Wada, including six former special assistants shifted loyalty to the APC barely hours to the governorship poll.
