I’ve forgiven my critics, says Ooni-elect

The Ooni of Ife-elect, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said on Tuesday that he had forgiven those who orchestrated campaign of calumny against him during the selection process to fill the vacant stool. Ogunwusi, who spoke on the telephone with our correspondent through one of his close allies, Mr. Leke Ijiyode, said he was not coming for vendetta but to begin to work on how to fast-track the development of the town. Ijiyode said the new Ooni of Ife was already extending the hand of fellowship to all those who disparaged him, saying he had been vindicated with the turn of events. Ijiyode said, “ We thank God that His will was eventually done. The Ooni-elect is not coming to fight those who worked to tarnish his reputation. “He has been vindicated. The Ooni-elect is aware of the enormity of the work awaiting him and he will not fail. He doesn’t have that time to be fighting against those who worked against him. “He is concerned about bringing development and peace to Ife; he is not coming to fight anyone. He has forgiven all.” The Obadio of Ife, Oba Olajide Faloba, who also spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said the new Ooni would arrive in Ile- Ife on Wednesday (today). He said the Ooni would be led to Ile-Ife by chiefs and well wishers and he would go to his family compound where some rites would be performed. He said, “The Ooni-elect will arrive in Ile-Ife on Wednesday (today). He would be led into the town from the outskirts. He would go to their family compound where some rites would be carried out. “He would proceed to Ilofi, a day after, where the rites would continue.” Another ally of the monarch, Mr. Biyi Odunlade, also confirmed that Ogunwusi would come to Ile-Ife on Wednesday. He said the new monarch would be installed as ‘ Sooko’ at their family compound. Odunlade explained that the Ooni-elect could not come to Ile-Ife on Tuesday because he was told that some rites which started on Sunday could not be completed on Monday, hence the shift in the arrival date. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has congratulated the Yoruba race on the appointment of the new monarch who succeeded Oba Okunade Sijuwade. The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi. The statement partly read, “We expect the Ooni-designate to drive the traditional institution with similar, if not stronger zest and panache that the late Oba Sijuwade deployed to promote culture, especially that of the Yoruba nation throughout the world.”
