Merging of ministries’ll boost service delivery ─ Lagos gov
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State says his administration has restructured the public service to enhance service delivery and boost the welfare of public servants.
The governor, who spoke after inaugurating a think-tank body, Forum of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in Lagos State, said the forum was to allow the government to continue to tap from their wealth of experience, knowledge and institutional memory.
He added that the body could further add value to good governance and efficiency in public service delivery.
Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, said the forum would also help the state to harness the potential and diverse contributions of the retired public servants to policy formulation, development and implementation in the best way that could impact positively on the lives of the people of the state.
He said, “The past few months have witnessed some restructuring in the public service, including the realignment of ministries, departments and agencies and the creation of new ones.
“All these are aimed at repositioning the public service for better performance in terms of quality and timely service delivery.”
He said the members of the forum had selflessly served the state and had laid the solid foundation for an excellent public service.
He said, “As the founding fathers of the state public service, you have toiled day and night in different areas to lay a solid foundation for an excellent public service. This forum will ensure that your collective dreams and vision continue to live on.”
Earlier, the state Head of Service of the State, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, stated that the inauguration of the forum was borne out of the need to tap from the wealth of experience of its retired senior officers and advise the state government on the best ways and means of enhancing the quality of service.
She added that the government hoped that the forum would assist it in reporting public opinion about government policies and monitoring of local government and community development projects, among others.
The President of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, Alhaji Omokayode Anjorin, commended the government for finding them worthy of contributing to the policy formulation of the government.
