IGP TO Medical Staff/Citizens: Assist Accident/Gunshot Victims

Following neglects and untimely death of victims of gunshot injuries and accident, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon E. Arase, has appealed to medical personnel and members of the public to attend to such victims and persons and thereafter, inform the Police for necessary action.

Arase also directed officers and men of the Police not to harass good Samaritans/Nigerians that attend and or treat accident and gunshot victims in this regard, but should endeavour to elicit correct facts in relation to incident from them.

The IGP explained that the latest Police position became imperative owing to numerous cases of innocent victims that were abandoned to their fate in very delicate situations out of fear of being implicated without Police involvement.

Arase further said; “Doctors on duty are equally duty bound to treat victims of gunshot wounds and further inform Police of relevant facts. The safety of Nigerians is a collaborative effort of all and sundry.

The Police high command enjoined citizens not to relent in their cooperative attitude in ensuring safety of all but to report any suspicious person or persons to the nearest Police Station.
